Examples of Guided Imagery

Learn about guided imagery from Betty Bethards Inner Light Foundation

Guided visualizations and guided imagery help us to imagine who we want to become and “puts out there” the positive energy to change or remove negative traits we want to remove.  Life is a roller coaster ride only if that’s the way you choose it to be. The imagination is the bridge to the other side. Imagination can also help replace old, negative programming for new, more positive habits.

As with all of Betty Bethards teachings, meditation is the way to help your inner self grow and to become fulfilled.

Below are many examples of guided imagery to help you.

Guided imagery #1

  • Relax and focus on your breathing by inhaling and exhaling.
  • In your mind’s eye see yourself as best you can, looking in a full-length mirror. Imagine yourself being reflected.
  • Now imagine the mirror hazing over, your image blurring. Ask that you be shown your biggest block to realizing your true self, what is the one thing that is most in your way of realizing your potential? An image will appear in the mirror — symbolic or otherwise — and you will understand its meaning.
  • Now let the image fade and in its place appears a radiant image of yourself. You see yourself as you really are — loving, joyous, and free to do and be whatever you choose. Dwell upon this image, delight in it. Feel it becoming a part of your own being.
  • Open your eyes, bringing with you new insights about yourself.

Guided imagery #2

  • Relax and focus on your breathing by inhaling and exhaling.
  • With closed eyes see yourself sitting before a mirror. Blur the image and then see your higher self. Ask to be shown what is your biggest block in realizing your potential? What is the key way to solve this? You may be given a word or shown an image. Thank your higher self and then merge with it.
  • Open your eyes, bringing with you new insights about yourself.

Guided imagery #3

  • Relax and focus on your breathing by inhaling and exhaling.
  • Imagine a staircase. See your ideal self at the top of a staircase. You are standing at the bottom, looking up. You feel the beauty, love, freedom and wisdom radiating from this true inner you.
  • Step by step you begin to climb the stairs. You reach to the top of the stairs.
  • Now merge with this ideal self feeling all the love, wisdom, freedom and beauty as a part of your own being. Dwell on this feeling for a moment.
  • You truly are a limitless being in an earth suit.
  • Now open your eyes, bringing with you new insights about yourself.

Guided imagery #4

  • Take three slow deep breaths and relax. Close your eyes.
  • Feel or picture a beautiful, loving spiritual teacher in front of you and ask them “”What was the main positive lesson this person (someone who has pushed your buttons) came to teach me in this life?”
  • Open your eyes, bringing with you your new insights.

Guided imagery #5

  • Take three slow deep breaths and relax. Close your eyes.
  • Picture great big scales in your mind. See what your scales look like. Are they swinging up and down? Is one side overloaded? What items are on each of the scales? *
  • With your eyes still closed, picture all of the usual things that go on in your life – your home life, your family, at work, interacting with different people. What are the things you feel relaxed with and what are the things you feel threatened by or uneasy with? **
  • Identify what areas are out of balance and work on them to change your life.

* NOTE: Use the Dream book to interpret the symbols in your image. Images that we mentally allow to form in our minds can often give us immediate readings of what is going on inside of us.  If one side of us is out-of-balance, it will affect the rest of our life. Balancing our life has to include our health, our mental state, our emotional state and our spiritually because we are inter-dimensional beings. We must also work on balancing our masculine and feminine energies.

** NOTE: The tension areas in your body or in your mind are those which suggest something is out of balance. You may need to work on your emotional self, or add more play into your life, or maybe you are taking your job too seriously, or maybe you aren’t putting enough effort into your career and playing too much.

Whatever is out of balance (and there can be multiple parts of you out of balance), you are missing a very basic ingredient because the most important balancing ingredient of all is self love. That means that you need to love the God-self within you.

Guided imagery can help us image what can be possible in our lives

Balancing Your Life

You can begin to bring your life into balance and achieve wholeness right now. You don’t have to wait until you get some new bright idea or until you “get through” a particular phase or age or stage in your life. Balancing your life has very little to do with what you think. It has a great deal to do with how you love.

There is always the potential for violence, hatred and love and we can choose which we want to activate. We must love ourselves for everything we feel and for what it teaches us. When you can start loving yourself for everything you are right now, for everything you have experienced too (in other words, acceptance), you will find that this unconditional love is the very thing that paves the way to opening yourself to higher awareness. You will find a greater love and harmony within your life. In other words, right now you must accept yourself for both the good and bad and the positive and negatives that have happened. . . all of it. Because love goes beyond the positives and negatives and creates the unifying energy that brings about wholeness.

The ego is what can get us off balance in the first place. We are drawn to this-and-that, we can take things personally, feel hurt and get caught up in desires and needs.

Look in a mirror and see yourself as you want to be - loving, joyous and free to do and be whatever you choose using guided imagery from Betty Bethardse

Guided imagery #6

  • Take three slow deep breaths and relax. Close your eyes.
  • In your mind’s eye see yourself as best you can, looking in a full length mirror. Imagine yourself reflected there. Now imagine the mirror hazing over, your image blurring. Ask now that you be shown your biggest block to realizing your true self. What is the one thing that is in your way to realizing your potential? Visualize an image appearing in the mirror, either symbolic or literal, and you will understand its meaning.
  • Let the image fade and in its place appears a radiant image of yourself. You see yourself as you really are – loving, joyous, and free to do and be whatever you choose. Dwell upon this image, delight in it and feel it becoming a part of your own being.
  • Now open your eyes bringing with you new insights about yourself.

Guided imagery #7

  • This is called the house of opportunity. In your own inner self you are going to explore and be shown some opportunities that you may be unaware of – or given directions that could open to you.
  • Close your eyes and relax.
  • Imagine that you are looking at a huge and ancient temple. Across the doors are the words “House of opportunity.” This is the house of your own self. You open the huge doors and move inside with great expectation and wonder.
  • At the far end of the large room you find yourself in are three doors. Behind each one awaits an image, an opportunity and a direction that is a possibility for great fulfillment in your life. But between you and the doors is a big block – a stumbling block – and first you must walk up to the block and ask what obstacle you have set before yourself that limits your awareness of opportunity.
  • Walk up to the block and ask “What is the obstacle I have chosen to put before myself?” Wait.  Now blast the block with white light and see it disappear. Walk to the first door.
  • Slowly open the other two doors and see what opportunities or directions are presented for fulfillment.
  • When done, walk out of the temple, thanking the inner self for insight and guidance.

Guided imagery #8

  • This is called the Path of Success.
  • Close your eyes and relax.
  • Imagine that you are walking down a forest path. Feel the forest around you, under your feet and smell the trees.
  • You come to a fork in the path. There is a sign pointing down one of the paths. It says, “Path of Success.” You follow this path knowing that it is leading you to new insights and happiness. You suddenly come to a clearing and in the dazzling sunlight you see an image of yourself as your true self, your ideal self.
  • See what you are doing.  Watch the scene unfold. You may ask yourself questions.
  • Now focus on the image of your ideal, fee, “Daring to be you” self. Let the rest of the scene, the forest, path and images fade away. Take a deep breath.
  • Relax and open your eyes.
